Installing offline using Webmatrix & FTP

  • I may have this in the wrong place but….

    I have installed Webmatrix so that i can develop locally and publish when ready. However altough I seem to be able to create a connection and it validates the “Download” button is greyed. The MS site tells me that tsi is because my server needs to be enabled to use Web Deploy… BUT I selected FTP when setting up the connection.

    I am hosted in BlueHost who tell me they don’t support WenMatrix, but it isn’t clear exactly what that means since I I am running it locally and simply want to FTP to teh site to publish.

    Can anyone help?

  • These forums don’t support third party products so this probably won’t be a good place to get help with Webmatrix either.

    This is frustaring since Webmatrix told me not them but you!!!!

    What is it you are trying to do? WordPress really isn’t designed to sync between two installations. If your site is on a live server, why are you trying to install it locally?

    Well, I want to develop and test things off-line so that I don’t expose potential mistakes to errors. One would normally, in a traditional development, develop elsewhere and then publish. You can do this wit WenMatrix apparently so this satisfies my development “best practice” model.

    As a matter of interest there is even a topic on Lynda.com about exactly this, it’s just it doesn’t help with my specific problem.
