• Hi,

I need advice on how to load a WordPress onto a plesk platform. I’m doing this for a friend’s website and it’s the first time I’m working with plesk. I created a database for the WordPress, changed the wp-config, then tried to FTP the whole thing directly to the site’s directory, but it won’t transfer at all. I do have connectivity. It just won’t move. I asked the web host’s tech support, and they basically said “Ask at the WordPress forums.” Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong?

    Thank you. ??

    Edit:

This is the exact email I got back from the site’s tech support:

You will first need to change your name servers. You can read the Forum at wordpress.com for assistance. If you switch from windows to linux, WordPress is available for automatic installation? If you wish to stay on windows/plesk panel then you will need to read the forum at wordpress.com. If you wish to have us do this for you we can help you install WordPress but normal fees would apply. If you have any further questions please let us know.

And yeah, I’m having some difficulty deciphering what the techie is saying. I know a little bit about uploading WordPress and configuring it, and building sites, but have no idea what “plesk” is.

    Thanks again.

I’m new this whole website business and am just starting out myself, but in my case, my host provided me with a link to plesk and a password to get in. From there I could choose to install word press from a list of applications. I don’t know if the list of apps was specific to my provider or if everyone who use the plesk control panel has the same list on hand. So Plesk, is supposed to set up wordpress and the database – you just supply some passwords and names. It hasn’t worked so smoothly in my case though.

I don’t know if your host provides plesk, or if you may be able to download it or use it from another website, but google it or look on wikipedia. I’m not sure if you would have to buy the software to download it. There is plesk control panel and plesk site builder I think.

The tech is … Entirely unhelpful. Wow. Point of reference: www.ads-software.com is for people who host WordPress on their own servers. WordPress.COM is for people who have WordPress host their blogs. Sheesh.

    Okay.

Plesk is a ‘control panel’ software that gets used behind the scenes to allow you to manage your website and domain. It lets you add email address, SQL databases, etc. If you use a *nix server, you usually get CPanel or something similar. Plesk is just normal for a Windows server.

It sounds like you already have Plesk, so check out these directions: https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/plesk/
