    Hi guys,

My dad wants me to make him a website but I currently have no hosting to show him a demo site of what I can make him and he doesn’t want to buy anything til he sees what the site will look like.

I want to be able to install WordPress on local host and him be able to see it (He is not on the same IP as he lives somewhere else) is this possible?

    Thanks, Rhys

  • Howdy Rhys,

Interesting question and one that’s kind of unique.

You can accomplish this by using a dynamic DNS service like Dyn.com or No-IP.com, which allow you to setup a domain on their service and ‘map’ it to your local IP address, even if it’s a dynamic IP.

There’s a little setup to it, usually involving installing a little program on your machine that ‘calls back’ to the service to tell it where you’re located. Then, you may have to do some work on your router to map incoming HTTP traffic for that domain to your machine on the network.

So, while I can’t give complete instructions, that should set you on the right path and give you enough info to be dangerous. ??

    I really hope that helps.

    Cheers,
    Eric

This ofcouse requires that your router, or ISP for that matter which usually is the case if youre for example is on a mobile broadband connection, dont have you NATed.
