    Hi there,

I have a WordPress site up and running and now I want to add some more sites. I have a few dummy website addresses ready to go as I want to run a few test sites just to sharpen my skills and play around with some themes.

This will be my first time putting up a second site and possibly more, with a view to offering it as part of my business down the line. I have a Hostgator account with the cPanel.

Does anyone have a good link that goes through this in plain english or any other advice on this. There are a lot of Multi site manager apps that come up in a google search but I dont want to go that route yet. I know that to most people this is easy but it is a bit daunting doing it the first time.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Mike

Please explain the phrase dummy website addresses (I failed to understood it).

…sharpen my skills and play around with some themes.

Thats great. You want to have a dev setup.

I have a Hostgator account with the cPanel.

Please ask your webhost. It is impossible to say from outside as your hosting Plan can be different than we will imagine and point towards.

You can create a subdirectory installation of WordPress for testing purpose with any Hosting plan provided that, the number of database table creation is not limited by the Host.

    Abhishek,

Re: Please explain the phrase dummy website addresses (I failed to understood it).

I got a few new domain addresses so that I could practice with WordPress online, have a place to put the new theme and practise on. These would be dummy sites to play around with uploading themes and making changes etc

These practice sites would be only for my owm use, no one would see them as the urls are made up of words/numbers

The hosting plan I have allows for as many sites as I want.

So I want to add new sites and practise in real time online, and just want to know what the best way to do this is. Any links etc – that said I am picking up bits of info from just looking at the other posts on here.

Hi, as you are using cPanel, you can do a search on YouTube with phrases like “how to add multiple domain on cPanel” – videos will give you a good idea than understanding from any text.

Avoid using the phrase dummy website addresses, just mention it as domains instead, in case you are going to ask somewhere. People will fail to understand.

You have domains something like example.com which you want to add to your existing hosting account and then install WordPress on them.
Actually the hosting provider should help you at this point. You need to change the nameservers from the domain registrant’s website.

You will get more help from serverfault, stackexchange etc. question & answer forums for the domain and hosting part.

After NS propagation, you will be able to use the domains and then you have to install WordPress in this way – https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Installing_WordPress
