installing word press twice

i am not a web designer, but i am trying to see if I can use word press to remodel a website. the real designer installed it in another subdirectory. first it’s domains>gourvitzcommunications.com>www>cms

but I want to used word press at gourvitzcommunications.com and not at gourvitzcommunications.com/cms

gourvitzcommunications.com is at domains>gourvitzcommunications.com>www>httpdoc

should I install word press in there as well so I can create my own wordpress and remodel the site? I think the previous designer created the site/cms because he wanted people to be able to post videos for clients to view, so it was a separate function. I personally would like to consolidate all that into one but can I just stay away from his folder and just install my own word press? thanks for you time
