• Hi,

Sorry if this question has been asked, but I couldn’t find the answer after doing a search.

I am installing a new WordPress blog for my domain links.com on Hostgator using Fantastico. WordPress is installed in the root directory. Is this a good idea?

Also, I would like to set up the blog before I change the DNS. Is this possible? So far, I haven’t been able to figure out how to do it, and the technical support at Hostgator told me that they do not think this is possible. I would appreciate it if some could confirm or let me know how to do it, if it is possible.

Any other installation advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the help,
    Rich

Why not? Alot of people do that.. me included! ??

If you want, you could also drop an install request off, over here:

Hmm, I’m a little confused though really.. you mean, BEFORE you change the DNS to point to your NEW blog url location? Or, you mean.. BEFORE you make the DNS changes, that would point to another domain name itself..? Or .. what lol?

    Hi spencerp,

    Thanks for the reply.

I would like to set up WordPress with a new blog before a redirect links.com from its current site to the new WordPress site. That way the site looks active when the new DNS redirection kicks in.

However, when I try to access WordPress at Hostgator using the temporary IP address/directory locationi that histgator provided, I am unable to get into the admin panel. Any ideas what is going on? Thanks.
