• Hi, 2 questions:

    1. I want to install wordpress on my server but in a subdirectory for example in a folder called “mysite” so all the files dont clutter my root. Is this possible? will I encounter any problems?

I want to do this because now for example I dont know which files are from my wordpress site and which arent as they are all mixed u in the root…..is there any way I can find out which files are from my WP install? in case I want to move the site?

    2. I deleted my files from my server and loaded a backup, all seems to be back but my wp site isnt working, when I go to the index url nothing happens, blank white screen.
But the folder structure and so on seems to be there. If I back these files up on my pc and backup the database can I deleted everything from my server and reinstall the wp site and use the back up?

    thanks and please answer!

  • 1. Yes, you can install in a subfolder. Just unzip files in whatever folder you want to host it from.

    2. You should be able to delete all WP files and re-install, as long as you still have the DB info correctly in your wp-config.php file.

Okay so if I backup and make a local copy of the wp-admin, wp-content and the wp-includes folders as well as the wp-config.php and export my database I should be able to recover my site?

Its strange because I can access a wordpress site on a subdirectory here: https://www.elchevirtual.com/deviaje
BUT after my mess up and my hosting company recover my files for me I cant access https://www.elchevirtual.com

Anyone know why this could be?

I dont get an error or anything, just a blank white screen.

I have now created a subdirectory on my server and have installed a new install of wordpress. I now what to replicate my old wp install on this new install thats working….so do I copy the old file here? how do I make it connect to the original database? replacing the wp-config file with the old one will work?
