I am hosted with ixwebhosting, and am now able to get as far as /blog/wp-admin/install.php before getting the error message:-

    Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at mysql8.opentransfer.com. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?
If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

I have been in touch with web hosts as I couldn’t even get as far as /blog before error notice. They adjusted config’php and now we get to /blog/wp-admin/install.php before getting the error message. But no further.

Please has anyone got any ideas, and please be gentle with me as I’m a newby.
    Thanks David

  • Most of the ixwebhosting installations I’ve seen use a DB_HOST similar to mysql12.ixwebhosting.com so make sure you have the right database host and update your wp-config.php file with that information.

    See: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Editing_wp-config.php

The only thing it can be is one of the 4 things you change in wp-config.php. Everything is case sensitive so re-check all info. I just straightened out an install the guy had been hassling with for a week. It was as simple as he had an “s” when it should have been an “S” in his db password.

Thanks Michael & samboll for quick reply, (still awaiting support at ixwebhosting).
The DB-HOST given by them was mysql8.opentransfer.com
by entering that and saving I now get as far as
    https://www.wyrdwizards.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php
but then get another error message as above i.e

    Error establishing a database connection

as far as typos I pasted the name password etc into the config file.
I know its a stupid mistake but where?
    regards David

Thank you Michael for install of wordpress. Twas done really quickly and thanks also for the helping hand on the forum. Yes you did point me in the right direction. But like a fool I believed the info given by my webhosting support as to host address.
But since then I have studied your install config and have installed a second wordpress blog site myself and it went good as gold. Confidence at last (Hope it lasts!)
    Thanks
