• I have a problem with installing WordPress 2.5.1 I get a blank screen when it gets to running the install.php file.

I saw a thread that had the same problem and it was with the .htaccess but i do not have this file on my host?

Version 2.0 installs fine but as you can imagine I do not want to use such an old version.

Nothing is created in the Database. I tryed upgrading 2.0 to 2.5.1 but that also just displays a Blank screen when you goto the admin panel.

should I create a .htaccess file? any help would be Greatly appreciated!

  • Hello I was having the same problem.

Try going to the config file and deleting that whole secret key section of four or five lines, somethings screwy with it.

If u still have problems try replacing the localhost with the real address which will look something like mysql4.yourhost.net.

    Hope that helps.

I will try this tonight when i get home and post my results. hopefully it works

    Hi, Lazy Dropout

Your tip definitely solved my problem. The instructions sort of skipped over the idea that I would need to update the localhost setting, but I tried it like you said and it worked.

So even though you weren’t specifically helping me, you did. ??

    Peace

still cant install just get the blank screen
If i put in mysql4.hostname.com I just get “Error establishing a database connection”

I took out the secret key section also and nothing.

ok i get this error in the error log
[Wed Jul 02 19:41:23 2008] [error] [client IP] PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 58368 bytes) in /var/www/vhosts/HOSTNAME/httpdocs/wp-admin/includes/schema.php on line 246

how can i make it have more memory? or use less Memory??

I am having this exact same issue, only problem is that the advice in this thread isnt working.

Does anyone know any other things I could try? I feel like grabbing an older version and installing from that, grr haha.

Don’t shot the messenger, but have you simply tried to refresh your browser? Often, it is just too easy.
