• I want to blog in Swedish for a Swedish audience. Looking for a host, I found Laughing Squid at the hosting page. They have good instructions for setting up and using WordPress (unlike any Swedish host I’ve found), and they seem to have a good reputation. I already registered my domain name (in the Swedish domain) with the Laughingsquid DNS code. Now,

    – Is it bad using web hosting in the US for a European site? Will the connection be slow?

    – If so, will the band width help? Should I pick the hosting plan with 20 GB band width rather than the cheaper plan with 8 GB?

  • I live in the UK and my site is hosted in California. The connection is fast enough for my needs, and would handle bigger and busier sites than mine.

Distance doesn’t make any real difference – it might take a fraction of a second longer for the first part of your page to appear, but not enough for anyone to notice.

You’ll only need more bandwidth if your site is going to get a lot of visitors – it’s not a measure of speed, but of how much data can be transferred.

Many thanks for taking the time writing your very helpful answer. Good information, and the part about that distance not matters is good news to me – exactly what I wanted to hear … Thanks!
