Does anyone have any experience with setup at Interland? I’m having issues understanding the Interland config setup and the wordpress information required for the wp-config.php file. I’m getting an “No input file specified.” when I try to goto domain.com/blog/index.php on the interland web site. Thanks in advance for your help.

Do I create a DSN database connection or a DSN-Less Database connection? These are the options on Interland.

Did you leave crystaltech after all?

I don’t know of anyone who’s used interland. I don’t remember seeing a post re interland in the last year. I’ll do a search….

Did you ask interland’s tech support?

I was trying to get setup and tryout the software on crystaltech as they have much better support. Then I was planning on setup on Interland…The blog is actually going to be on an Interland server. I Called Interland support and needless to say they were not much help. So here I am again….

Well, there’s 9 topics re interland, since the beginning of time here: https://www.google.com/search?num=20&hl=en&lr=&q=site%3Awww.ads-software.com/support/&btnG=Search&meta=?le=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&q=interland&btnG=Google+Search&num=20&sourceid=Mozilla-search

A couple mention the sort of thing you’re getting, but there’s no resolution on the posts. You probably need to find out which server flavor and database flavor interland has you on.

Interland, btw, got bought out or merged in with someone offshore I think I remember hearing. And their support never was much good, and now is much worse I hear.

I’m in trouble with this one I think ;-(

Yeah. Is this for a client?

Why not go with one of the bigger ones like 1&1 or Site5 or Lunarpages, for the same cost. I can’t find any support links on Interland’s site and that always throws up red flags for me.

It’s the clients choice, we’ve already asked them to move a few times. I never liked Interland …

Do you know if I need to set file permissions on the web directory “Blog” EVERYONE: to “Write”?

lord no! In general: 755 for directories, 644 for files

Ouch. Well, I have a couple of “best guesses” here: first, it’s dollars to donuts whether you can get it working there without some actual support from interland; second, if you DO get it working, I’d bet on continuing problems, with the continuing client headaches.

Me? I’d notify the client in writing that interland is not going to work well if at all as a wp host; that if you can get an install working you will NOT support it without charging hourly for problem-solving, tweaking, and general hand-holding; that there might be other solutions; and that the total price on the dev cycle goes up if they want to change software backends in midstream instead of just getting a decent host to begin with.

But then I’m notorious for being contentious and difficult to work with….

your database option should be DSN (data source name)

P.S. Are you sure you’re on a linux server, not a windows one?

    great question there neon.

I got to pondering her question after I answered and am now envisioning the windows security dialogs and the “Everyone” group. Sure sounds window’ish. As does DSN, for that matter.

I’ve set up and ran WIMP servers. It ain’t fun.

But they still don’t need “write”

That’s why I told her to ask what server and database flavor. Interland pushes winboxes hard among their other wonky stuff.
