intermitent wp-signup.php redirect loop

  • I’ve recently started experiencing an issue with my wordpress sites. I’ll be making changes to one of my sites when it kicks me out and says that there is a wp-signup.php redirect loop. It stays like this across browsers and other machines/devices for between 30mins to 1 hour. Then it comes back up, as if nothing ever happened.

    Sometimes it will go for a couple of hours sometimes 20 mins before it happens, but it is consistently happening now.

    I have been making changes to my site, although I can’t identify what it is that has changed at the point of this starting, I’ve looked at new plugins etc and tried disabling them, but nothing has helped.

    A quick description of my setup:

    Two sites on a multi site install which had been working ok to begin with;
    https://www.lonchan.com was my main site, although at the moment it need rebuilding as the theme and plugins I had are now out of date and so it’s all looking a bit rubbish(but this isn’t my most pressing problem);
    licensedtoill.co.uk is my second site it is actually licensedtoill.lonchan.com, but I have domain mapped it to licensedtoill.co.uk;
    hosted on Fatcow – yes I know I need to find a better host and this may be a contributing factor as to why my sites are so slow, but I’m looking into this at the mo.

    Things I have fiddled with (I’m not a coder and probably am not proficient enough to be doing these things but need must):

    the redirect from https://www.licensedtoill.co.uk to licensedtoill.co.uk(no-www) takes forever, so I’ve tried to put in a .htaccess file into my licensedtoill.co.uk redirect folder on the ftp, not sure it’s helping to be honest

    I’m running a siteorigin origami child theme at the moment but haven’t changed anything I can think of in the php etc

    When the redirect loop happens, I can’t access my wp login, or either site.

    I’ve seen people with similar issues but nothing that related directly to mine that had been followed through and solved.

    Just in case anyone experiences a similar issue, I think this has been resolved – my hosts had an option to redirect the domain using a pointer from www to non-www. this had created a redirect subdirectory in my root, which seemed to be causing it to intermitently flake out and loop. It hasn’t been doing this since I took this directory away.
