• Hi,
    I’m getting this error:
Error establishing a database connection! This probably means that the
    > connection information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect. Double
    > check it and try again.
    > * Are you sure you have the correct user/password?
    > * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    > * Are you sure that the database server is running?
But I’m only getting it intermittently — so this can’t be a problem with my config settings. At other times I’m experiencing very slow downloads. This is on a newly launched blog using 1.2.1.
What are some possible common causes of this sort of thing? This is the first site I’ve launched where comments are enabled. Are comments sometime the culprit? The site is only getting about 10-20 comments/day. Also, one of my users has installed a site meter from sitemeter.com — could that be a problem?
My host is usually very, very reliable, and I have another installation of WordPress 1.2.1 on the same server that is totally trouble-free.
    thanks,
    Ryan

  • Sitemeter can be a total drag, I doubt comments are the problem. Unless of course they exposed a weakness in your provider that you didn’t notice before.

Sitemeter shouldn’t be accessing _your_ database though; its request for an image from the Sitemeter server triggers the stats capture — but that’s all on their end. When they have trouble, all you should see is a slowed-down page load.

turns out this was a hosting issue. They moved me to another db server and all is well as of now.
