Internal Error 500 htaccess issue

Hi guys, I’m having trouble fixing the htaccess file so it can rewrite any changes without causing an internal error. I know there are posts about this on the forum but I can’t seem it understand any since I am new to this. I tried to recreate the htaccess file by going into notepad making a new htaccess.txt and then renaming it to .htaccess in the ftp but that didnt seem to do anything. I have deleted my old htaccess as well from the ftp so all I have in there in this blank .htaccess with no information in it. Any feedback in much appreciated
