Does this autolink only link to the linked article? can’t it just be redirected to the tag because if it’s auto redirected to the article it gets weird.

Because this is automatic, it is better to be directed to the tag page link because there are many articles rather than being directed to other articles (between articles), because these automatic links more often lead to inappropriate (not as desired) directions which can confuse readers.

However, if the link is directed to the tag page that is inserted into the Internal Link Juicer plugin in the article, the reader will get a large selection of articles and also increase traffic.

That is more a philosophical question on what strategy you want to implement to interlink your pages.
The links depend on the way you have inserted your keywords and how you configured your settings – you can nearly build any use-case that you can imagine.

So for the scenario, you described you can just add the keywords to the given tags and all the keywords should only link to those tags that have the keywords.

Please mind, that linking on taxonomies (for example tags) is a feature of our Pro version and won’t be available in the basic version.
