From an SEO perspective, I’m concerned that by using Pretty Link, I’m creating a TON of internal links to pages that don’t exist.

Is this true? I’m adding the nofollow attribute to all links so will this take care of it?

Is there a way to be sure that:
    a) the pretty link “pages” aren’t being indexed
    b) Google doesn’t consider my pretty links an “internal” link?

    Appreciate any help here.

    Hi Kyle,

I would recommend using 301 redirect type with nofollow activated. Another thing you could do is add a directory prefix to your pretty links like go/slug. Then in a robots.txt file you could do something like:

    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /go

    Hey cartpauj,

I appreciate the response. I made the change to a 301 and a nofollow.

So, am I technically creating an internal link or does the 301 take care of it?

They will be seen as internal links because they use your domain name.

I meant to say the no follow. Wouldn’t the SE essentially just disregard them at that point?

If not, creating hundreds of false internal links can’t be good for SEO.
