Internal links are not recognized
-
Hi Yoast,
I just created a new post and all the internal links are counted to external links. I tried to remove and add them again multiple times, but still, no internal links are counted, leading this post to orphaned content.
Other posts are fine.
Could you help me with that?
Thanks for your help.

There are a few cases where a link might not be recognized:
-
Only links from inside the WordPress post editor are recognized. This means that links from navigational bars, menus, sidebars or footers are not recognized.
Links need to be in absolute form. This means that links need to include the full domain. For example, https://www.example.com/page-a is an absolute link, while /page-a/ is a relative link.
The internal linking tool will only recognize links on the page that are input in the standard fashion of including a text based link from within the WordPress editor, and not from links that were created using modules of other plugins in WordPress, such as many page builders for examples. However, Google and other search engines will still be able to see the links, so if the internal link isn’t being recognized by the analysis, it will still be seen and crawled by search engines.
Hi devnihil,
Thanks for your reply.
I have used the same way to insert my internal links, This new post is not working. Also, some internal links are counted as external links in my previous posts.
I have used the full domain. It is a texted based link with WordPress editor.
Only links from inside the WordPress post editor are recognized. —It is from the inside. That is why I don’t know why all the links are counted as external links in this post and I am concerned this will happen to my future posts.
Also, this post is in the orphaned content and I want to move it.
Could you help me with my concerns?
Thanks.
@artstone12 Regarding your issue, can you please confirm you are using the most recent version of Yoast SEO, version 16.1.1? You can learn more about updating here: https://yoast.com/help/how-can-i-update-my-free-plugin/
Also, can you confirm you are using WordPress 5.7.1? You can check by clicking on the W in the top left and selecting About. If you need to update, please check with your host provider. Please know that if you are using an older version of WordPress Core you may experience unexpected behavior with Yoast. This guide explains more: https://yoast.com/why-we-dont-support-old-wordpress-versions/
If you update to the most current version of WordPress and Yoast SEO, does this resolve the issue?
If you have already confirmed that both Yoast SEO and WordPress are up to date and the issue is still occurring, we would next recommend performing a conflict check to determine whether another plugin or theme is interfering with the Yoast plugin.
The fastest way to do this is to?deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme?like?TwentyTwentyOne.
Test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the?Health Check & Troubleshooting?plugin. This plugin allows you to run a conflict check?without affecting normal visitors to your site.
If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process:?How to check for plugin conflicts.
Hi devnihil,
They are the most updated versions.
I don’t want to change the theme or deactivate other plugins as I don’t want to mess up my site.
Is there any other way I can figure it out? If so, could you guide me step by step?
Thanks.
It is weird.
I have added internal links in the proper way but they are not recognized or counted as external links.
I can click on the internal links from frontend.
Can you please try resetting our indexables in the database tables by following the steps below?
1. Install & activate the?Yoast Test Helper plugin.
2. Go to Tools > Yoast Test
3. Hit the “Reset indexables & migrations” button.
4. Go to SEO > Tools, and under SEO data, click the “SEO Data Optimization” button to allow Yoast to rescan your pages. For your site’s health and safety, we recommend creating regular backups of your site and database. This is especially important before installing, updating, or removing plugins. Learn more about the benefits of regular backups.`
Hi Suwash
I followed your steps.
Still, the latest two posts can’t recognize the internal links. They all show zero.
Is there another way you can help me?
Thanks.
Due to the nature of the issue, we’ll need to take a look at your setup to see what’s going on here exactly. However, we are unable to take a look at your setup as this is a public forum. So, if you have a Yoast SEO Premium subscription or willing to purchase one at https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/, you can have our premium support where we can investigate the issue privately to see what’s going on here.
Thanks for your understanding!
Hi
Will the internal links and orphaned content in Yoast SEO affect ranking on Google as they can’t recognize the links and content?
I had internal links and this is not orphaned content.
Thanks.
I also noticed the internal links in two of my old posts were missing as well. But before they were there. I don’t know what’s wrong.
Can you help me?
Thanks.
Even if the plugin’s analysis doesn’t detect the link, Google and other search engines will still be able to see the links. So even if the internal link isn’t being recognized by the analysis, it will still be seen and crawled by search engines.
As for internal links that are missing from your site’s page, Yoast SEO wouldn’t add or remove content as part of the link analysis.
Thanks for the information. All good.
@artstone12 You’re welcome. If you should need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to let us know.
We are going ahead and marking this issue as resolved due to inactivity. If you require any further assistance please create a new issue.
Thanks for your reply.
May I know how to open a new ticket for another issue? It is www.ads-software.com related, but not Yoast related.
Thanks.
