When I do an internal search on my website using the search bar, the results come back “Not Found” for content that is on the website, albeit in a tablepress format.

Is there someway that I can get the content in tablepress to show up on an internal search?

I’m assuming that because the content is in tablepress and not actually on the page as normal content, this causes it to be unsearchable?

I appreciate any help I can get. Thank you in advance.

    Hi,

    thanks for your question.

You are right, the WordPress search by default can only search content that is directly in a post or page.
However, TablePress has some code to extend the search to all tables that are embedded in public posts or pages with the regular table Shortcode.

So, to find out more, could you please post a link to the table that you would like to find, and also give us the search terms that do not work for that table, as well as the exact Shortcode that you used to embed that table into the page? Thanks!

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hi Tobias,

Thank you for getting back to me. I really appreciate your help.

    Here is the link: https://www.mediteksurgical.com/products-page/gel-pads-positioners/relaxa-gel-arm-pads-and-positioners/

For example, anything under “product number” is not searchable, such as RG-5000-A. The only other cell/column that should be searchable is the “description” cell/column.

Here is the shortcode: [list id=198 hide_columns_logged_out=”E” /]

    Thanks again Tobias.

P.S. I am just the marketing coordinator, so my reach is limited but I will push for a donation for sure. We appreciate your time and efforts.

Google indexes all of the content of your site, including table contents, so you can also try using a Google Search plugin in place of the standard WordPress search.

    Hi,

thanks for the URL and for the Shortcode!

I think I have found the reason for the problem ?? You are using the TablePress Extension to change the Shortcode from “table” to “list”. However, I somehow forgot to make the search function aware of that possibility.
I will of course fix this bug in the next version. Sorry that this happened ??

(Meanwhile, to test if my assumption is correct, could you temporarily deactivate that TablePress Extension and change the Shortcode back to

    [table id=198 hide_columns_logged_out="E" /]

on that page, and then try the search again?)

@crouchingbruin: Yes, that is absolutely correct, and that would also be an option. Thanks for sharing that plugin!

    Hi,

sure, no problem, you are very welcome!

So, did that suggested test work? Did the search work after that temporary modification?
I have now also added a fix for this bug to TablePress, that will be part of the next release. If you want, I’ll create an up-to-date development version, so that you can already benefit from this now…

    Regards,
    Tobias

P.S.: In case you haven’t, please rate TablePress here in the plugin directory. Thanks!
