    Hi,

I beg someone to help me with this problem. Below is copy of IT!
I cannot use functions, such as: update, trash, publish, etc. I can log in see content, etc… because right then I receive message below.
I contacted my server and after spending over hour on phone, result was that on their side is all fine, because I can log in to my website via browser and into admin area also, so it it must be some “file” problem, or so, in a WP itself.
PLEASE, if you know how to fix it, kindly advise me, I cannot work in my admin area, only “look at it” really.
    Eternally thankful,
    Maya

Are you using any plugins that might be causing this? see https://codex.www.ads-software.com/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F to read how to manually disable plugins

Try renaming your .htaccess file to .htaccess-bak and seeing if the error continues. If the problem is fixed, then it’s something with your .htaccess file, maybe a syntax error has crept its way in there.

    Hi Anthony,

Yes I do use plugins, but last plugin I installed was several months ago and all worked very well. This problem happen suddenly just few days ago.
So I don’t think plugin could be a culprit?

    Thank you sincerely for responding!

    Best regards,

    Hi TheDoc,

When I called my server the rep was very accommodating and helpful and spent w/me quite a time. He also contacted “higher” support and they suggested exactly that, so I did it under his lead (via FTP) exactly what you suggested. Unfortunately that did not fix my problem and than he said that it is not server’s problem, but WP problem.
So, I am stuck for now and desperate, because I have to post my content regularly and for now I keep it in “MS Word”
But if you come up with some other solution trial, kindly let me know, I’ll give a shot to anything..
    Thank you so much!

    Best regards,
    Maya

maybe try replacing wordpress files(backup first!)?

The only thing I could suggest further would be to update WordPress to the latest version. Make sure to back everything up first (including your database).

I have latest version, it should be 3.2.1
If there is newer that I didn’t get announcement!
    Thanks,

    Replacing WP back-up?
Well, that would be a task, I have all on some main BU server, Doing it daily..is it possible that hosting server itself can put me back on some previous date?
Before that happened? I’m not techie, so I’m lost here..
I do not have WP back-up that I would do myself. All I came across advised me that it is tricky matter, so I have Mozy. But I am not sure how that works, only that it is backing my computer files daily and I pay them fee. Still I thought WP is on hosting server.
Why then hosting server (I spoke with yesterday)didn’t offer such an option? Little confused here..
    Thanks,
    M

The site is fine. The problem occurs after you log in and are in the dashboard? Or after you enter name, password before you get to the dashboard?

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Hello kmassinger!

I can log in OK, with my user and pass, either via browser (typing domain) or directly into admin dashboard, which is my usual way. I could get to my site, no problem there.
No matter what I click on from the WP menu, dashboard, all shows up well.
ONLY commands, when I do something and want to update, delete (trash) save draft, etc… every time this 500 error shows up.
    I have Mac, not Windows.
Only one other thing I noticed, when I click on posts, usually it brought me to my published posts. But now it always get me to my “draft” posts.
Otherwise as I said: Simply cannot execute any command when work in admin area. All trigger that message.
    Thanks,
    Maya

    Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

Almost any error on the back side is caused by a javascript problem.
Following esmi’s advice should correct those problems.

    Thank you,
I could see what “esmi” suggest and I do thank you, Theme Diva.
But I am scared to death to do this, especially second part.
I am pretty good writer, but technical things are my nightmare.
Do you think if I try first suggestion with plugins removals and re-install, which I know well “how to” would be worth trial first?
    Please let me know!

Thanks all for care and suggestions!
    Maya

If you can log into your site, then you could just try switching to the Twenty Eleven theme and deactivating all plugins. The plugin folder reset option can be put to one side until you’ve tried those first.
