• Hi

I am hoping someone can help me. I have a website that was running fine until a week ago. https://www.qstep.co.uk

The website was moved from plesk vps to cpanel vps, then the DNS was changed to reflect the move.

It worked perfectly before and after.

Now suddenly a week later, I can access and work the admin panel but viewing the site on the front end I get 500 internal server error.

I can do all the normal things like create pages, add posts, change settings.

What I cannot do is view the website in the front end or do any updates.

    ………………….

    “Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”

    ………………….

Here are the steps I have taken so try and resolve this:

Restoed backup of DB from December
    Renamed ht access file
    Created new htaccess file
    CHecked my permissions
Changed permalinks to default and back again
Installed manually new wordpress update 4.1.1
    Renamed plugin folder
    Disabled all plugins
Changed to default theme and back again

If anyone can offer any advice or guidance I would be very appreciative.

    Many thanks

    Lesley

  • Hi Lesley,

Normally the error comes due to incorrect permissions or incorrect code in .htaccess.
Please check error_logs with your hosting provider. They surely can help you to resolve the issue.

I had the same problem. I changed the filename for .htaccess to .htacess_old. This forces a new .htaccess file which should immediately resolve your problem

    Hi

Thanks for this – one of the first things I did was change the htaccess file and change permalinks.

Hosting company are not being helpful.

DOes anyone have any other ideas other than what I have tried?

    Thanks

    Lesley

Have you looked at the server error logs?

BTW, your site does show up for me – albeit looks like not totally working correctly – various shortcodes aren’t working.
