Internal WP FTP Fail?

Hi,

I’m trying to install any plugin from within wordpress (rather than doing it manually) but I’m having problems…
I’m on the Plugins > Add New page (‘Connection Information’) where it asks for my ftp details.

I’ve entered the details and they are correct (I know this because I’m connecting to my server using coffecup, and I installed WP manually using these FTP details) but I keep on timing out, the exact error is:

504 Gateway Time-out
nginx/0.8.54

Can anyone think of a reason why I can manually connect to my server, but through the WordPress interface I can’t?

I can manually download each plugin, then upload to my server via ftp, it’s just a pain not being able to do it via the interface as there are lots of plugins I want to test out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
