• Hello:

I run a web based travel related site called lasventions.com. It was doing rather well until the first of May or so. I noticed that my clicks had fallen off dramatically. Checked Internet Explorer last night and it is a garbled mess. Could some one please take a look for me and offer a suggestion? I will gladly pay someone to fix this problem as I hope it is something simple.

    Thank You:

    John

  • I can’t load your site at all in IE8, I notice that your site is trying to get in touch with an IP address, “74.53.239.194”, does that mean anything to you? It could be an indication of something bad, like some malware.

Do you know right off hand where I could find that IP? I am not real technically savvy.

    Thanks jleuze

    Yes sir. Thats my IP.

OK, that’s good! Otherwise it might have been something nasty trying to phone home.

I can see your site now in IE8, so it must have been a hiccup. I am seeing all three columns stacked on each other, so you are a victim of “sidebar drop”, searching for that should find you lots of info about it.

First off, you have a ton of errors in your code, if you can get your code to validate, your site should be a lot more consistent across the various browsers.

Can you fix it by any chance?/

I ran the validator and it came up with 177 errors. Ouch.

Yeah, that is a lot of errors! Many are likely very minor, but it would take a bit of time to fix them all.

I would recommend disabling your plugins and your ads if you are able to do that, and see if you can narrow down the problem.

I removed all of the ads from the site. At least it displays on my IE 7 now. I do not understand all of the errors. I just post Vegas deals and do not use html. At least i didnt think I was.

    Hey jlueze

    68 Errors, 9 warning(s)

After removing all of the side bar ads.

It is working for me as well in IE8. So you know that it is one of your ads that is breaking the site.

Obviously these ads are not put together correctly, you probably don’t have much control over fixing these errors. I would recommend fixing the other validation errors that are a result of your theme.

I am going to assume that although the ads are buggy, only one or two are probably actually responsible for breaking your site in IE. I would try to slowly add the ads back in and check in IE as you go. When it breaks, you will know which one is the culprit, just don’t run that ad any more ??

Your the man. I really appreciate your help!!!

No problem John, I hope you get to the bottom of it!
