Intranet Recommendation

  • Looking for some advice about building a fairly simple intranet for my company. Weighing the pros and cons of hosting it on one of our servers internally, or on a GoDaddy (or similar) hosting plan. Seems the argument is largely:

    If we host it on our internal server…
    PRO: Only users on our network can get to it, so security by default
    CON: An employee out on the road on his/her cell phone doesn’t have access since they’re not on the network

    If we host it outside our network…
    PRO: It’s accessible to all employees, even if they don’t have a company device
    CON: We’ve got to secure it so that the outside doesn’t get in.

    Any thoughts to which of these is a better choice? Or is there a different approach we’re not even thinking of? Thanks for the advice!
