Hello! After using this plugin to make my website https, the plugin seems not to work and the site has a security warning. Reinstalling the SSL certificate fails at the Generation stage but previously failed at the Activate stage (this has been going on for ages and I’ve not got round to sorting it!).

Someone elsewhere told me my problem might be with the hosting company, but when I spoke to them a while back they didn’t seem able to do anything except recommend their paid version, so perhaps I didn’t quite ask the right question.

WordPress fully up to date. Host is 123reg. Sorry not for doing more than a brief search of past topics – I wasn’t confident about search terms and don’t understand a lot of what’s written in answers. I’m pretty rubbish at this sort of thing, so please be gentle with me! Any help very much appreciated. Thanks!

What is the error you get during the generation stage?

Thank you Rogier. A line that alternates between “Attempt 1” and “Attempt 2”, then “No order for ID” then a string of numbers.

@simonvarwell did you try a ‘reset let’s Encrypt’ in the right top of the wizard? This often helps with this error.

Thanks Rogier. That got me one step further, to Installation. There, I get this message:

“YYour hosting environment does not allow automatic SSL installation. Please complete?manually?You can follow these?instructions.?After completing the installation, you can continue to the next step to complete your configuration..”

That link to the instructions has a list of hosting companies, and mine isn’t on there, so I am not clear how to go ahead from this point.

Hi @simonvarwell that is great to hear!

Please keep in mind, that because the automatic SSL installation is not allowed by your hosting, you need to do this every 90 days, as the Let’s Encrypt certificate expires after 90 days.

Thanks Rogier, that’s a helpful reminder – shouldn’t be too much of a faff hopefully. And maybe in the future I should seek advice on other hosts…
