• Hello,

Version 2.0.66.37 has broken the ability to display galleries on my site. Even though the galleries are still there in Manage Galleries, the Display Galleries section is broken.

*The list of display types is missing
*Under ‘What would you like to display?’, the source search says ‘No results’ and continues to do so even if you put in the exact name of a gallery.
*In ‘Customise the display settings’ all of the dropdown options are missing.

Every gallery on my site now just says ‘Invalid Displayed Gallery’

Please help!

@kmcharityteam – What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

– Cais.

(@kmcharityteam)

– WordPress is up to date
– NextGEN is up to date
– Upgraded from the one before 2.0.66.37 to 2.0.66.37

(please confirm the following, with your server host tech) :
– MySQL up to date (at least 5.0)? Yes
– PHP up to date (at least 5.2.4)? Yes
– The mod_rewrite Apache module activated? Yes
– PHP Safe Mode OFF? Yes

Additional information that will help us find a solution:
– Who are you hosted with?
Heart Internet UK

– What theme are you running?
Goodlayers Worldwide

– Which plugins do you have installed and activated?
Google Analytics by Yoast, Gravity Forms, iThemes Security, NextGEN Gallery by Photocrati, NextGEN Plus Gallery by Photocrati, Widget Logic, Wordfence Security

– Does this error still occur if you switch your theme to a WordPress Twenty series theme and deactivate all plugins except NextGEN Gallery?
Yes, with multiple Twenty_x themes and only the Nextgen Gallery plugin, after a refresh the error still occurs.

I’ve noticed two other threads that have popped up with the same problem today

@kmcharityteam – You are noting you use two different “security” plugins … have you ensured that your .htaccess file is returned to a “default” after they are deactivated?

Hi Cais,

That doesn’t make any difference unfortunately. I haven’t changed the htaccess for months so should not have been a factor anyway.

The only thing that has worked, briefly, before bringing the site down, was the beta. The menus started working again and I was able to re-enable each gallery by going through the menus and resaving them. In the <img class=”ngg_displayed_gallery mceItem” for each displayed gallery it changed the id in ‘/nextgen-attach_to_post/preview/id–xxxx’ and added <img class=”ngg_displayed_gallery mceItem” to the end. The galleries then worked. But each time I did this to fix all the galleries, the menus became slower and slower, until the website went down. I then had to rename the plugin folder via ftp and edit functions to get the plugin to stop and the website is now back up, with the beta plugin still disabled.

@kmcharityteam – Although I did not see any specific caching plugin, are you using a caching functionality / service on your site?

For everything to work but then progressively become worse until it finally fails points to something not working correctly but I cannot specifically tell as is what that may be.

As to the .htaccess changing, “security” plugins are notorious for making those changes … sometimes without clear notice they are.

Hi Cais

No, we don’t use a caching service and the htaccess file has not had anything added to it and I did test it with a ‘blank’ one with only the ‘begin wordpress’ part in it so that WordPress loads.

Here is a snippet of the error logs for when the site was brought down, some sensitive info replaced with an x

then when the plugin directory was removed by ftp but it was still causing the website to be down

@kmcharityteam – I suspected a server setting issue but the Overview display does not support that (although it is entirely possible those details are not being reported correctly as some web hosts will use restrictions that are not reported at the site level).

As it is, all I can suggest at the moment if for you to submit a Bug Report (https://nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug … please reference this topic) so we can get a closer look at your site and hopefully see what’s going on under the page.

We will likely need log in and FTP credentials for your WordPress installation as well, please include those with your Bug Report.

Thanks!

– Cais.

I am also having the same issue as she is with the invalid display and I am using nextgen plus. I deactivated plus and the problem still existed. I deactivated all plugins and the problem still existed. It was working just fine last night and this morning, I didn’t check the photos, but I installed better delete revision, deleted my revision posts and checked the site and got that “invalid displayed gallery” message on every page of the site. Everything WAS fine yesterday, and today I have over 20+ pages that need fixed.

Here is my gallery overview:

The placeholder text is missing for all my img codes.
<img class=”ngg_displayed_gallery mceItem” src=”https://sunriserock.com/dev/nextgen-attach_to_post/preview/id–6529″ alt=”” />
