  • I keep getting this also. Never seen it before. And it won’t let me create a group.

Same problem here! What’s going on? This has been a very usefull plugin for me in the past, but no matter what I do, I am unable to create a re-direct at present…? I don’t want to use “Group” redirect anyway – just need to redirect single (old) page URLs to their new equivalent.

I’m not sure what might be happening, but this plugin used to create two groups automatically. Those groups were ‘Redirections’ and ‘Modified Posts’. These two groups are NO longer being created automatically, which I think is causing some issue with how this plugin functions.

@ekazda: This is not your topic. If you require assistance then, as per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic.

@esmi, I’m a little confused. I clearly know that this isn’t my topic, but I think that the issue that I pointed out is related to the problem that these individuals are reporting. I would venture to guess that if they recently installed this plugin, and they navigate to the “groups” tab within the plugin, they will find that no groups were added automatically. If this is the case, then I would tend to think the fact that no groups exist is the reason they are receiving the “Invalid group when creating redirect” error.

I might suggest that these users simply add these two aforementioned groups themselves, but since I am not the plugin developer I can not attest to if those groups are granted special functionality within the plugin that is now missing since they were not created when the plugin is installed and activated.

However, thanks for pointing out the forum rules. That was very helpful in trying to solve this issue.

@ekazda you are correct, we do not have any groups available in the dropdown. So do we just need a patch to get the groups to display?

@mikelast: I would suggest you submit this bug directly to their github at https://github.com/johngodley/redirection/issues

@mikelast: I was able to roll one of my sites back to version 2.4.3 and everything seemed to import exactly as expected. It also created those groups that I mentioned. You can download old versions at https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/redirection/developers/

@ekazda – thanks I’ll do that. and I’ll submit this to their Github as well, hopefully we can get this fixed.

I had the same problem with the Groups not being generated automatically. I checked the developer’s version report and version 2.5 was designed to deal with the issue: ‘Fix no group created on install’.

I, therefore, uninstalled the Redirection plugin and reinstalled it, and that sorted out the issue (screenshot) with Groups now being automatically generated. (Simply deactivating and re-activating the plugin did not work.)
