    Hi,

I’m having a strange issue with my Yoast Generated XML Sitemap. I’m seeing the following error in the Google Webmaster Search Console:

    “Invalid URL

This is not a valid URL. Please correct it and resubmit.

    Examples

    URL:

    Line 43 Parent tag sitemap

    Tag: loc

As it doesn’t specify a URL I’m unsure how to resolve this issue, does anyone have any ideas please?

    Many thanks,

    James

    Hey @jmdesignsolutions,

Thank you for using Yoast SEO and for reaching out!

I checked your sitemap index file and see that it has some empty lines on line 43 – as well as a W3 total cache ending.

Please exclude your sitemaps from the W3TC caching and check if that helps resolve the issue. More info here: https://yoast.com/help/exclude-sitemaps-from-cache/#w3tc

    Hi Jeroen,

Thanks for the quick reply but I don’t think that’s the issue. I’ve only just installed the cachcing plugin after I wrote the message above so I don’t think that’s related (I’ll exclude it anyway). How can I remove the empty lines from the sitemap?

    Thanks,

    James

    Hello @jmdesignsolutions

The empty tag still exists in line 43 of the sitemap source:

    <sitemap><loc></loc></sitemap>

Often, we see problems occur in combination with another plugin or theme. The fastest way to rule out any conflict is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Twenty-Two.

Please test this on your development or staging site if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin has a troubleshooting mode, which does not affect normal visitors to your site.

If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts

If you feel uncomfortable doing this yourself or if this does not solve your issue, our Yoast SEO Premium plugin comes with one year of (technical) support.
