I have installed this plug-in (site not public) but when I try to add a username either through the form and also back-end and whatever I type in it says invalid username. The email address is fine and shows valid and there are no other error messages. I have search your own site and this for this error but nothing shows.
I have php 5.6.33. Using Twentyfifteen theme, just changes in a child theme. Disabled child theme and all plug ins but still have this problem.
Do you have any experience like this?

Thanks, I checked the db through phpmyadmin and there are no corrupted tables. I also can call up the two members from the db using php code. I have another message out via another route for help. If that doesn’t help I’ll contact support as you suggest.
thanks again for your time. I’ll report back when it’s solved.
    Cheers

I’m chagrined and relieved to report the solution.

We have a current memberhship system where the user name has a space between the first and last name. We set it up that way intentionally to have clear identities, our programme picks it up and adds a dash) and that was my habit. I now realize that a username can have not spaces.

Problem solved!!!! (Though I would prefer to have it as above)
