    Hello,

I installed WP on an IP address given by Bluehost while in development. The domain name resolves to the site home page now, but the other pages still show the IP address. I tried changing the URL according to the directions, but that caused a lockout. The IP/wp-admin will let me log in. However, neither the domain address/wp nor wp-admin appear valid for WP login.

What else should I do in WP to sync the IP with the site name on the other pages?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • If you’re site is no longer in development and your url is resolving to the right IP, then what you need to do is go in your database via PhpMyadmin and change all instances of the ip address to your new url. You can access phpMyadmin via your Bluehost cpanel.

Lorelle has a good tutorial which you can read – https://lorelle.wordpress.com/2005/12/01/search-and-replace-in-wordpress-mysql-database/

Make sure that in your wp-options table, the siteurl and home are also set to the right url.

OK. Should this be done in addition to the WP settings URL change page?
Also, the Bluehosts SimpleScripts installation of WP has a place for updating the domain or address. Do I need to do that too?

    Thanks.

    Thanks. That worked perfectly.

The Velvet Blues extension updated all the picture file names easily too.

    Hello!
The site I am helping with is shared hosted at one server and the new site will be hosted under VPS with WP driving the new site. I can install WP but when I try to access anything, I am shunted over to the shared server and I cannot figure out a way for WP to temporarily only use the IP to navigate – until such time that the nameservers are in fact changed and we can go live under the actual domain name. We are a group of people scattered around the country that need to work together to develop this new site… Please advise.
