jQuery nor defined error but works in customizer view

  • I have just installed WordPress 5.8.3 and set up a home page with shortcodes from the weather station plugin. When I view the page the dials which should be visible are missing and I get a jQuery is not defined error. But if I go into the customizer view of the theme (Twenty Twenty-One) the dials are displayed just as they should be.

    All the plugins (5 of them) are up to date and I have reinstalled WordPress. The site is hosted by HostGator.

    I’ve used WordPress for years but can’t recall coming across this problem before.

    I would be very grateful for your suggestions.
