Is an XML safe to import after hacking

  • Hi, I have recently had my sites hacked, it appears even the codeguard backups are infected.

    I have exported and XML file from one of the sites, will this be safe to import into a fresh install on new hosting or is there any way I can check that it is free from malware?

    I wouldn’t trust it, do you have any other pre-hack backup to restore from?

    If not, just make sure that you run through this guide one more time after importing.

    When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.

    Thanks James. I have backups, I was using Codeguard and have a bout 3 months worth but I don’t know how to tell which is pre-hack. I have looked through what changed on each and can see that the later ones are definitedly infected but not sure on the earlier ones.

    Generally I’d consider either 1 week or 1 month prior to the hack to be safe to restore from, really it depends on how much re-writing you want to do. ??

    You’ll still want to look for the obvious signs after restoring and run through the guide and security measures just in case.

    It’s great that you have so many backups to choose from, I wish more people were just as prepared. ??
