    Hi,

I haven’t upgrade Better wp security since 3.6.6 version because I’ve read there were many problems like admin lockout, blank pages and so on.

I really like the plugin but I don’t want to make my site unusable, so I didn’t upgrade yet.

Is the last version stable or there are any problems?
Is it better to upgrade or not?

    Thanks!

    (Sorry for my bad english)

  • Hi Yuffie89,

It’s definitely recommended that you stay up to date. Although I’ve seen these go off without a hitch, such an update there is a chance for some of your settings to get a little wonky. I’d suggest having a stable backup of your site just_in_case. If you do have any issues with the update you can file a bug report and we’ll take a closer look.

    Hi Gerroald,

thanks for the reply. I think I’ll upgrade it.
If something goes wrong (I hope not!), there is a method to return to the older version? Replacing the plugin folder with the older one is sufficient?

    Thanks

I have been waiting also – for the same reason.
    Yuffie89 was your upgrade successful?

    I haven’t upgrade yet.

Before upgrading I want to know if there’s a method to return to the older version, in case something goes wrong.

Yuffie89 – FWIW, I installed iThemes Security on a new site, and within 24 hours it had prevented several invalid login attempts and one brute force attack. This freaked me out enough to risk upgrading from 3.6.6.

I created a full backup, plus made my own copies of .htaccess and wp-config.php. I read through this post, https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/better-wp-security-is-officially-ithemes-security?replies=29, plus several of its links. Armed with the phone number of my web host in case something went terribly wrong, I pressed the “update now” option.

This went fine! I rechecked all settings and adjusted a few to be more stringent. All is great and my site is working with no issues.

I don’t use many plugins, so maybe that is a factor. But I just thought you’d like to hear this success story. Good luck with your upgrade!

    Thanks for your story, cgamron!

I decided to upgrade it too and… no problems at all!
I updgraded succefully the plugin and it works perfectly.

Now I have to check the settings but for now seems all ok.

    Well, resolved the question ??
