Is it possible to get excerpts of two different lengths?

I want to truncate posts on the home page, so I use the <!--more--> tag to create an excerpt. And it works fine. But I also want the ten most recent posts of a particular category to show as a news feed in the sidebar, and for that I want the excerpt to be about half as long. Is there a way to accomplish this?
