Is it possible to install WPMU in a sub-directory?

  • I want to install WPMU but not at the root. I would rather install WPMU in a sub-directory (folder) for various reasons. Is this possible?

    The WPMU installation instructions state that you have to install it at the root, but I was wondering if anyone had tried this successfully.

  • I did run a subfolder installation that way originally, probably because I didn’t know any better, but moved it around Sep 2011. One factor in this was discovering that domain mapping wasn’t possible with it in a subdirectory; WP has to be installed in the server root for that.

    You can install it in a subfolder, but you will have that subfolder in the name of the URL.

    If you install in domain.com/foo, then ALL sites will start domain.com/foo and so on.

    And you can’t map domains.

    I just did the same thing, and if I understand correctly you can’t use subdomains/domains for your subsites. As far as I can see the installation is working like a charm in the subdirectory.

    Hi – I just did a subfolder MU change on existing WP site…
    deactivated all plugins, but can’t get the MU to work in the Toolbox.
    Also changed to Twenty-theme to make sure everything was kind of default…
    name of the subfolder before change was wp_eric and I didn’t change that, what went wrong?
