I have tried different ways that were discussed in earlier posts but haven’t had any luck. I am able to get the dialog box to come up asking for username and password but after that I get an error. I even tried putting the folder outside of the WordPress folder and it still doesn’t work.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

If you don’t call it from your menu, how do you get to it?

I need a way for the members of this organization to get to the folder. I am assuming that I need to have a menu item that brings up the dialog box to enter the username and password when it is click on and then takes them to the folder.

much simpler. Just link to it. Anywhere. It will take care of login for you. You can add custom url to your menu under appearance -> menu

Well, I tried using a custom url, I guess it just was the wrong custom url. Sorry. I don’t understand what you meant by

    -hidden
    –.htaccess
    –.htpasswd
    -wp-content
    etc…

    no worries.

I have my directory which is password protected and underneath that my .htaccess file and my .htpasswd file. Then there is the wp-content folder, which is on the same level as the hidden directory.

    -hidden
    –.htaccess
    –.htpasswd
    -wp-content
    -wp-admin
    -wp-includes
    -index.php

I should probably be doing this when it isn’t after midnight, I haven’t been at the computer all day and it is cooler than 90 degrees.

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [ redacted ] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

I used to have access to the error logs but I can’t seem to find how to get to them now.

Problem was a typo in the .htaccess file.

    Thanks for your help
