Is it possible to return on the same day

Thanks for the detailed message. As you also assumed, hourly rentals are the solution for same-day rentals.

The system always calculates the exact duration of the rent in seconds, where the minimum chargeable fee is 1 hour. The pricing framework of Vik Rent Car follows the OpenTravel standards and you can find a lot more information on our official website and documentation. In short, this is how you can define your rental costs for each vehicle from the page Fares Table:

• Hourly Fares: from 1 to 23 hours of rent, only applied to rentals shorter than 24 hours (1 day).
• Daily Fares: from 1 to ∞ days of rent, only applied to rentals greater than 24 hours.
• Extra Hours Charges: from 1 to 23 exceeding hours of rent, only applied to rentals greater than 24 hours. For example, a duration of 2 days and 3 hours can be charged for 2 days plus a fee for 3 extra hours unless you set up the system to offer 3 hours of gratuity.

Please notice that a duration between the pick up and drop off shorter than 24 hours will still be charged as 1 day of rent if you don’t define any hourly fees for the requested number of hours of rent.

Thank you for the quick response. I’ve tried putting in hourly rates, but this does not allow me to select per hour. Same day pickup/return is still not possible.

This vehicle for example has hourly rates (1-23) set at 10 valuta intervals. But when you select the day you’d like to rent, it auto-populates the date fields at the bottom and locks out the return date to the day after.

Is there some other setting that I need to check to enable the selection of rentals per hour?

Thanks for the link. I forgot to mention in my previous message that you should not be forcing 1 day as minimum rental period from the Configuration page, or choosing same-day rentals would not be allowed.

Please open the Global – Configuration page in Vik Rent Car, and under the “Search Parameters” section of the first tab, make sure to change the setting “Minimum # Days of Rental” to 0. This way no days will be added to the selected pick up date.

Click the Save button and in order to avoid cached settings to be applied, please consider using a private/incognito session of your browser. This will solve your problem.

I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. That field has no value shown when I save it as ‘0’. Is this normal? It still doesn’t allow me to select hourly rental of the vehicle. I have pressed the button to refresh session data and have then checked in incognito.

We bought the PRO version in case this matters. Is it better to take this question to that support?

Hi,

Yes, that is normal as 0 stands for an empty value. If you enter 1 you always require 1 day as minimum rent. With 0 instead you can have hourly rentals that start and end on the same date (as long as the rental duration is at least 1 hour).

Also, most configuration settings are cached in the PHP session, so it may be necessary to log out and log back into your account, or to use a private session to immediately test the changes.

Please take a look at the official demo website of Vik Rent Car, which I believe we cannot link here, but May or June 2022 have got no restrictions over the minimum number of days of rent, and in fact you can select the same return (drop off) date as the pick up.
