  • Diogo15, I’ve seen similar calculators elsewhere, if you look at the page source it always seems to make reference to dq_estimate_wizard.cfm and I’d guess DQ is these people: https://www.designquote.net/html/dq_estimate_wizard.cfm

I’ve no desire to suggest who did it first or if anyone copied anyone, but it would seem there’s a script out there somewhere that will do it for you without the need to create your own forms.

Re the post title – no, I had no idea that was a wordpress site! I think it’s very attractive and didn’t realise such a theme existed. Although running my screen resolution (1366×768) I only saw the very top lines of the three boxes and IMO it would have more impact if these loaded more prominently on the screen’s first impression. Can’t cater for all screens of course.

    Hi SRJP,

If you look at the source you cannot see any estimate.cfm because as I already explained above it is written by JavaScript. You don’t need to use any cfm for it.

You can see the code here: https://media55.ca/media55.ca/wordpress/wp-content/themes/InStyle/web-price-calculator.html

I have first seen it on designquote.net and designed my calculator. I think it is a very good idea.

Thanks for the comments, I think it is a really nice theme, new trends is rotating backgrounds, it looks more dynamic.

Hi Sarkut, I must apologise for my very badly worded post – I don’t mean to question your claim that you wrote it in JavaScript yourself!

Where I wrote, ‘I’ve seen similar calculators elsewhere, if you look at the page source it always seems to make reference to dq_estimate_wizard.cfm’

I should have clarified to what I was referring, viz. ‘I’ve seen similar calculators elsewhere, if you look at the page source on those sites it always seems to make reference to dq_estimate_wizard.cfm’

    Sorry for any confusion!

It is OK, no problem. We prepared JavaScript here: https://media55.ca/media55.ca/wordpress/wp-content/themes/InStyle/web-price-calculator.html and them embedded it with IFrame to: https://media55.ca/media55.ca/wordpress/web-price-calculator/

any other comments on https://www.m55.ca ?

Nice site, just my opinion. I think you visited color for the menu bar is less, maybe you can use red. It will look match.

Thank you for the comment Deny,

I tried it after I read your comment, it looked nice but one of the wallpaper had a red line over menu and it didn’t look good under it.

    Awesome Effort!!
    You should feel very proud.

I have the same issues with the top menu. (Pixelated Font)
You may need to change the font your using as it’s not very web safe.
You could try the google fonts that get loaded with the page but that may blowout you load times.

    I’m running FF on windows 7 32bit.
    1680 x 1050 screen resolution.

Have you checked your Google Analytics for the most common screen resolution and browser options of your visitors?
That would be the first place I would go and replicate the most common to see how it presents.

    Well done

    Hello Mick,

Thanks for your comments and suggestions.

It is a great idea to check Google analytic to figure out visitors and make the changes according to it.

I ll need to test the page on windows FF on 1680 x 1050 resolution.

    Thanks

Which template is that and how do you make the changing background?

    Thread Starter sarkut

    (@sarkut)

There are a few templates with rotating background images. I think it is the new trend.

    I am using elegant themes.

Isn’t it make the page loading time longer? Because it is loading 3 wallpapers at the beginning.

Also different wallpapers are getting loaded for pages. It shows 3 wallpapers at the same time at initialization.

It just takes a second to load for me, Also Alexa Analytics show the loading time good, it is better than the 50% of the web sites.

I think it is Ok because it doesn’t take a long time.

I don’t know if anyone has a problem with page load time?

Never trust your own computer’s load time if it has a local connection to your server.

For me, page load time for me is 2.64 sec to onload event, and I have a 24 mpbs connection on the west coast. It might be a little slow but I sure didn’t have a noticeable delay.

Image bg1.jpg loaded in 1.25 sec for 397kb. It downloaded in parallel with bg4.jpg and bg10.jpg. Maybe the first big background image will load faster if you can delay the beginning of the second background image load.

    Great looking website!

I REALLY like the price calculator, it lets people know what they are going to pay up front – more sites could use it.

Very nice site overall. I personally think the changing background is distracting and takes away from the focus of the page (the content).
