I started a blog – stumbledownunder.wordpress.com. Later, I bought a domain and moved it to Bluehost. In “My Sites”, both stumbledownunder.wordpress.com and stumbledownunder.com appear. My question is do I need stumbledownunder.wordpress.com, or is it safe to delete? If I delete it, will it free up that URL for someone else? Thank you.

That’s really not a question we can authoritatively answer here and you should ask in the correct forum for .COM.

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/support

This forum here is for self-hosted WordPress.ORG software installations, not about .COM.

    This link explains the differences.

    It’s a common misunderstanding. ??

I’m aware of the difference. The question is in relation to how one may affect the other, if it does. My main blog is self-hosted.

A separate site with the same content is bad for search engine hits because of the duplicate content. What you should do is contact WordPress.COM and inquire about doing a 301 redirect from the old WordPress.COM to the new self-hosted main blog.

That answer applies to all cases as duplicate contents is Not Good?.

To answer that part, no, domains are never recycled or reused over there. So that’s another consideration – if you ever may want to use it again. In which case you can set the site to private and search engines won’t see it that way.

But the .COM support forums would still be the best place to get advice on this :)!
