Is its parent directory writable by the server?

  • I am using my client’s hosting.
    I am using
    WordPress 4.7.3 running Twenty Seventeen theme.
    I tried to upload 1
    649 kb image to wordpress media.
    I got this message
    “Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2017/03. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”

    I see some suggestion to change the
    Changing permissions (777) However I do not see
    “wp-content/uploads”

    I just created a folder “uploads” and change permission to 777.
    Now it works.
    Is this safe?
