Is MailPoet safe nowadays?

Since I’ve read some articles about a lot of websites being hacked because of a security breach in this plugin, I can’t help to wonder if that’s something from the past or are there still security flaws?
I know it’s over a year old, but it still doesn’t give me a safe feeling.
