• I’m new to WP and have only done simple things with it. I have a main site where WP is installed at the root. I also have a couple of subdomains, with WP also installed at their roots. So far, everything has been fine. All of my subdomains have unique URLs.

Last night I installed a new instance of WP at the root of a subdomain. I’m having a problem with this one. When I go to the site, the title (and footer) both have the name of my MAIN domain’s URL, not the subdomain as it should. In addition, when I log into the new subdomain WP Dashboard, it also has my main URL at the top rather than the subdomain.

I contacted my hosting support (Host Gator), and he said it was probably a mod_rewrite problem, but couldn’t offer information on fixing it.

What do I need to do? The mod_rewrite info I’ve found so far has been over my head. If it matters, my main domain installation of WP is 2.1.3, and the one I tried to install last night is 2.2.1.

    Thanks,
    Jason

  • It sounds as you were using the main site’s wp-config file without changing it…
Also, what are the two URI values in the admin > Options > General?

Well, the URI is listed correctly there. I actually just now changed the Weblog Title to the correct subdomain name and it now displays correctly on both the site itself and the dashboard.

However, is that just putting a band-aid on the problem? Could there be something more complex that needs to be fixed other than just correcting the Weblog Title?

    Thanks,
    Jason
