    Hey!
I run a fansite for an actress & attached to that site is a fairly big image gallery (over 1000 images and more coming) powered by Coppermine. I would like to get an image gallery script/plugin that would play well with my WordPress powered site. Would NextGEN be able to support 1000+ images without making the site slow? Tried to find an answer at the forums & went through FAQ as well but I couldn’t find any info and thought I’d ask before I start moving the pictures over ??

NextGEN can basically handle large number of images (one of my sites has about 2 400 photos) and performance should still be pretty good.

I think you should anyway arrange this amount of images into several galleries (the above site mentioned has close to 150 galleries) and also albums. With NGG you can also include albums into albums, not just galleries. That is handy if you e.g. want to categorise your 50 galleries e.g. into five different categories (using albums) and want to display them as just one album, holding there five different albums.

My above site shows this page https://www.tiirikainen.fi/wordpress/?page_id=235 using just one album containing five albums (unfortunately names/descriptions only in Finnish).
