    Is Speed Optimizer required for SiteGround-hosted websites?

    If yes, please explain. So far, our tests indicate it’s not.

    Thank you.

    Hello @generosus,

    Indeed, the Speed Optimizer plugin is not mandatory for websites hosted on our servers, however, it is specifically developed and optimized to work with our setup. It includes a range of features such as caching, image optimization, and minification of CSS and JavaScript files, all of which contribute to faster load times and improved user experience.

    While it is not currently required, using the Speed Optimizer can provide additional performance benefits and we recommend using it on websites hosted on our servers.

    Best Regards,

    Hi Daniela,

    Thank you for the quick reply. We’ll monitor our site’s performance without using Speed Optimizer and report back if we determine there’s a performance degradation without it.

    Cheers!

    Hi @daniellaivanova,

    As a follow-up, please know that we conducted a myriad of performance tests with and without Speed Optimizer. We’ve concluded that — for those hosting their website with SiteGround — it’s best to retain Speed Optimizer (mainly, for caching reasons).

    Cheers!

    Update:

    After addtional testing, we learned this plugin was holding our website hostage in many ways. Switched to another one. Couldn’t be happier.

    Best wishes!

    Which other one did you go with?

    WP Fastest Cache. If you decide to use it, and your site is hosted by SiteGround, disable Dynamic Cache and Memcached in Site Tools.

    To disable Dynamic Cache, add the following rule to your htaccess file.

    <IfModule mod_headers.c>
    Header set Cache-Control "private"
    </IfModule>

    To disable Memcached, change the setting to OFF.

    Cheers!
