    Hello all,

I’ve searched online and in the forum but could not find an answer to my issue.

I noticed this morning that my links to outside sites are no longer opening in a new tab. I noticed a new bit of code that’s been inserted in my links after the target=”_blank” after a recent WordPress upgrade: rel=”noopener. After reading up on it, I understand what it does but could it also be preventing my pages from opening in a new tab? Nothing else has changed that I know of. It makes no sense. I checked a few pages of my site and now pages that used to open in a new tab no longer do. Any ideas?

I am using Chrome on a PC (Windows 10) but have also tried Firefox and IE and it is doing the same thing.

    Thanks.

Moved to Fixing WordPress, this is not an Everything else WordPress topic.

How did you add those target=”_blank” in the editor?

    Hey, @jdembowski!

    Just a heads-up:

I noticed a new bit of code that’s been inserted in my links after the target=”_blank” after a recent WordPress upgrade: rel=”noopener.

It seems the topic starter didn’t insert the rel=”noopener” by himself.

    Cheers.

Thanks guys. When adding external links in WordPress, I do use the _blank setting but the recent WordPress update added that noopener tag. I just noticed it the other day when I saw that my external links weren’t opening in a new window. I can’t find anything on it online. Although I did see one old post here asking the same question but nobody answered it. Do I need to use a plug in to suppress the noopener? That doesn’t seem like a good idea especially if Google penalizes us for not using it. (I read that – not sure if it’s true.)

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.
