Is the focus keyword field something the SE uses or is it for the user only?

TLDR, does a search engine see what I put in the focus keyword field or is it for me to adjust my title, url etc?
So, I’m curious if the focus keyword is something the search engines see and say “Okay this page’s focus keyword is hamburgers” or is it just for us to use as a guide when editing the fields?
Does this make sense?
Followup question. Is there really a difference in subtle changes in a focus keyword? If my keyword density is too low for hamburger, but hamburgers is also in the post 3 times, does that matter to a search engine?
