    Hi,

I had to remove my very first wp installation because my automatic update – and manual after that too – failed so my account stopped working properly. Now I’ve re installed it (and being a newbie this whole thing took time really) and was wondering that is it a must thing to update my 3.03 version to 3.1?

I mean is it some security issue if I don’t or will it not function as well as the newer one? How about the plugins etc?

My hosting company only offers the installation via fantastico and for some reason there’s only available the old 3.03 version. So I decided that I will anyway open a new hosting account in another company which offers this one-click-instal of word press and always the newest version instantly – or so I understood. So I’ll have all my other word press sites there except this first wp site..

So what do you think, will it be a problem if I have this one word press site installed with that old 3.03?

3.0.3 really should be upgrade for security purposes at least to 3.0.5

3.1.1 will be out soon with some bug fixes

Thanks for the info – ok will do it. I just hope it’ll succeed this time.

Do you recommend doing automatic or manual?

The thing is that I don’t really understand about any technical stuff so much, I followed directions to the detail the last time but it failed anyway….

But the problem was I had wrong host name, ftp user and ftp password when updating automatically the first time – so do you think the automatic update will be ok now that I for sure have the right ones?

manual upgrades are almost always flawless

however, I would try the auto upgrade and if that doesn’t work – do the manual

Ok, so I did the automatic update and now it has again got stucked with this text; Update WordPress

    Downloading update from https://www.ads-software.com/wordpress-3.1.zip…

    Unpacking the update…

    Verifying the unpacked files…

    Installing the latest version…

And nothing happens. When I try to go to dashboard, it has this “briefly unavailable for scheduled maintanance. Check back in a minute”

    I don’t understand what I did wrong…

And when I logged out and tried to login there was again that “fatal error” message just like the last time I tried doing this autoupdate…

likely you didn’t do anything wrong – more likely a server glitch
do it manually from the link I supplied above
