Is there a plugin that updates the permalink automatically if you change…

One thing you can do is click the “edit” button, delete everything and then click “OK”.

The reason that WordPress does not automatically update your permalink is because it physically changes the URL of the article. If this is a published post, you don’t want to change the URL because then anyone who was linking to the old location is no longer linking to your article, they link to your 404 page.

I understand that. I’d rather have it update the permalink and kill anyone hyper linking, since there’s no need for the purpose of my site.

But I guess I have a new question then, is there a plugin that will delete the previous “publish” and create a new “publish” when I save an edited post?

This would all be fixed if I could just add my customized field into the permalink. something like: website.com/category/episode#
Any available help for this?

Just curious: How often do you change the titles of your posts that this is an issue?

You could always publish your posts with episode numbers as the title, and then link to the category pages from your homepage instead of directly to the articles. This would take some programming but it can definitely be done.

Well I’m not always going to have the titles of the episodes, but I do want them if possible.
I have a custom field that’s working for the episode number.
post->post_episode

Is there such a plugin to automatically update the permalink? In the WP model I’m working with, people can often have a need to change the title of a page before it is published. It would definitely be useful to have an automated of making the permalink match the final title so that it doesn’t have to be done manually – that’s an extra step which would be easy to forget.
