• We have been busy moving a client’s family tree into wp family tree. All was great for a while but it’s getting slower and buggier as we go. This is a huge tree – we’re at nearly 900 family members now and will be probably around the 1000 mark by the time we’re done.

My question is – are the problems we’re having with slowness, errors, general bugginess anything to do with the volume of posts we’re entering?

I’ve installed a clear cache plugin to help with speed, and it did a little but it’s still really slow.

Thanks Rochelle for contacting me via the plugin website – and thanks for your patience while I have been snowed under with other work.

I am happy to say that based on your request I have now rewritten the plugin so that it will perform better for larger trees. I’ll hope to publish an update shortly.

In the first instance I am looking at replicating the same/similar functionality but within a different framework and database. Hopefully that should resolve your immediate issues..

Hi, I was wondering if there is a limit for number of generations that could be listed. We are talking about 9 generations so far and some 1200 members.

There isn’t any limitation as such in terms of storage.. In terms of performance I would imagine that 1200 members should be fine although I’d need to test it to say for certain.

What format are you storing the family data in? Is it gedcom or something else?

Depending on where you are with your website you might be able to one of the first to try the new plugin..

Actually I am helping my mum set up a site for her village in Bulgaria. She currently has two excel files and lots of diagrams. Not sure where to start… ??
