At the moment you can only manually customize it (meaning that when you update the plugin, the customization will be lost). You can open file:
class-birthday-widget.php and change the text at lines: 229, 245, 310

PS: Maybe if your other request is implemented, the text of the field be an option available for customization to admins… but I am worried because this way the plugin would be too generic with a lot of potential bugs etc…

Thanks for the tip! and the line numbers!

I agree that if you add too many options it may lose some of the appeal of simplicity and focus.

But adding a little flexibility may broaden the appeal and lead to more people using it. It would be great to be able to type in my own verbiage for this.

    Thanks again,

    Hi there,

in version 1.7.9 you can enter a custom Verbiage for Users ??

Please give it a try and if everything works and you like our work, please consider leaving a rating.

Sudavar thanks for responding so quickly!

However it appears there may be a bug.

    – I set it up on our public site at https://www.lindahall.org/test
    – Even though I do have the options set properly (see the image on that page), the verbiage I set does not show
    – I also tried it on the internal Intranet site and it continues to show the default message

    I have tried
    – restarting the web server
    – uninstall and reinstall the plugin
    – reboot the server

We are using WordPress MU 4.4.2

Thanks for your help, and I will definitely leave a rating once we resolve this.

Update. When the widget is in List or Calendar mode, it words as expected. When it is in Default, or Upcoming format, it does not work.

    Thanks again,

So sorry, when in rush everyone makes mistakes… I searched for the appearances of the previous years old and made the changes only there, didn’t tried all the widget’s formats. Will have an update to fix it.

Hello, just fixed your issue… simple “copy/paste” in the other formats.
Please give it a try and let me know.

As soon as the new version is available to me, I will install and test it. Right now I don’t see a newer version than 1.7.9.

    Thanks

Sorry there was a problem with the commit, so I continued coding.
    Version = 1.7.10 =
    * Dates are handled with the WordPress date format, editable from options
(dates in custom table are saved in the format YYYY-MM-DD)
    * Dates in User registration form, User profile, backend admin table are all
shown and handled with WordPress date format
    * Fixed bug with sorting backend table by date
    * Added buttons to display only WordPress Users and current day’s Birthdays
    * Fixed bug with User’s Verbiage
    * Fixed bug with sorting users having birthday on the same day

Please give it a try and if everything works and you like our work, please consider leaving a rating.
