I was interested in your plugin because of the horizontal scrolling feature, which works quite well.

The issue I’m having is that I’m trying to show a rather wide table (about 25 columns). Since there is a sidebar, the displayed table is quite narrow and starts scrolling after just 9 columns and it looks funny.

The sidebar isn’t needed on that page, but my theme doesn’t have a “remove sidebar for this page” feature. So I tried setting the page to full-width. In that case, the entire table is shown, without scrolling and the page is way too wide as a result.

Is there a way to limit the number of columns shown before scrolling kicks in, so I can maybe change the 9 columns to 15 or so – to try and match the width of the other pages, where it fits nicely under the banner? Or perhaps there is another way to limit the actual width of the table before the scrolling kicks in?

    Thanks,

    Hi,

well, there is a possibility to change the widths of the columns, but nothing really to change the number of columns for when the scrolling shall start.
The reason is that in HTML tables, the content of the cells defines their minimum width, and that again defines the minimum width of the table.
So, if the content already requires so much width that only nine columns are visible at the beginning, there’s nothing really to force it to show 15 columns…

Can you maybe post a link to the table? Can you maybe even create two test pages, one with the side bar and one with the full width, so that I can see the difference that you are describing?

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hi.

I can do that. Would you mind emailing me to doug(at)lerner.net so I don’t post the link here?

    Thanks,

    Hi Doug,

just to keep the support topics manageable for me, I’ll close this thread, as it’s closely related to the other thread at https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/datatables_fixedcolumns-seems-to-break-horizontal-scrolling
Both are dealing with horizontal scrolling and the FixedColumns Extension, so that we can handle both together.

    Tobias
